Japanese Pokémon booster boxes: a quick guide

Why buy Japanese?

New Pokémon sets are released in Japan first, usually a few months before the English versions. Many English sets combine cards from several Japanese sets, so a Japanese box lets you open a set in its original form, and earlier.

What's in a box?

The number of packs depends on the type of set:

  • Main expansions (for example Abyss Eye, Mega Brave and Storm Emeralda): 30 packs of 5 cards, 150 cards in total.
  • High Class sets (for example Mega Dream ex and Terastal Festival): 10 packs of 10 cards, 100 cards in total.
  • Special sets can differ. Our 151 box, for example, has 20 packs of 7 cards. Our Incandescent Arcana box has 20 packs of 6 cards, 120 cards in total.

Every product page lists exactly what's inside.

Shrink wrapped or no shrink?

Some boxes come in two options. Shrink wrapped boxes still have their plastic outer wrapping. No shrink boxes are the same box without the plastic outer wrapping, at a lower price.
